Goleta Facing Higher SBSO Contract Costs

Daily Sound: Goleta projects a $1.1 million deficit
"....But Goleta is also reeling from a projected $355,000 increase in its contract with the county to provide law enforcement services for the city, which incorporated in 2002.

The Sheriff’s contract has ballooned largely because of an increase in overhead and administrative costs that the city has little control over; the only area Goleta can make cuts is in the actual number of personnel that it pays for.

Goleta currently pays for the roughly 35 positions. The council on Tuesday discussed eliminating on gang enforcement officer – shifting those duties to a city community resource officer. The council also batted around the idea of reducing one of the four detectives that it contracts for, but that idea was met with resistance largely because detectives essentially work in pairs...."

I don't understand what they are complaining about??

Contract with SBPD, ooops, that would be twice as much. I think the only department that would be less than SBSO is Guad!!

Everybody always wants something for less....

Each contract city gets more in services than what they pay for. But each city fails to recognize these services when an event occurs.

If a city is unhappy go elsewhere for services. See how far you get!!

7:11, You cannot blame Goleta for wanting to find ways to save money during these difficult times.

So the first place to look is what they consider wasteful spending.

Why would the CRO, Detective and Gang positions even be considered?

Who occupies these positions? What can the department put down and present to Goleta to demonstrate these positions are productive?

I can think of one of these positions that needed a new person, or a fresh face years ago. Could it be that one person's work ethic could hurt an entire agency and community?

8:44, you are mistaken. Goleta does not want to save money. Hell the motor unit alone brings in hundreds of thousands in fines alone!!

It is also not SBSO making Goleta take CRO's or Gang cops, they want them!!

24/7 LE is not cheap. Overhead & Administrated costs?? They have a LT. as the Chief, several Sgt's and Detectives wheres the overhead?? If they had their own department they would have two or three times this amount in the upper admin. alone!!

PLEASE!!
